About Us

The Princess Margaret Hospital is the premier, acute tertiary care facility of The Bahamas.  Built in 1952, it was renamed in 1956 from the Bahamas General Hospital.

This acute care facility specializes in inpatient services with a complement of 402 beds, including a nine bed Intensive Care Unit. Our services, which are supported by a staff of approximately 1,989, provide primary, secondary and tertiary level care, including Accident & Emergency services and a full span of diagnostic and therapeutic services.

The Princess Margaret Hospital offers specialist consultancy services to Rand Memorial Hospital and Community Clinics in New Providence, Grand Bahama, the Family Islands, and the Turks & Caicos.

The Hospital is accredited by The University of the West Indies Medical Internship Programmes, and maintains reciprocity with other international institutions.  The Hospital Research and Teaching Center provides clinical educational programmes for third year medical students, internship programmes for Medical, Nursing and Allied Health students; and Continuing Education programmes for all categories of staff.

The PMH Management Team – an Executive Management Committee consisting of the Chief Hospital Administrator, Medical Chief Of Staff, Principal Nursing Officer, and Financial Controller - is charged with the responsibility of strategic planning, managing, and coordinating the hospital’s services. They are supported by a team of Administrative Officers who are responsible for the general administration of the services, namely; Allied Health, Inpatient Services, Outpatient Services, Support Services and Domestic Services. Administrative responsibilities are executed in collaboration with the Senior Medical and Nursing Representatives.

Our mission and vision, the essence of our institution, provide us with a purpose for the service we administer.  Visionary leadership commits our team to providing quality healthcare service for all Bahamians and visitors to our shores.  We aim to develop a new culture characterized by enhanced services as well as personal and professional growth of our diverse staff.
